Didiplis diandra, also known as Water Hedge or Stargrass, is a popular aquatic plant that is favoured in aquascaping and freshwater aquarium setups.
Appearance
This slender plant has finely serrated, green leaves that can grow up to 60 cm tall under optimal conditions.
Fertilisation & Lighting
To achieve vibrant colours in shades of orange and red, it requires good lighting and ample fertilisation. Providing an adequate supply of CO2 promotes significantly better and faster growth. Additionally, to support colourful growth, it's essential to supply the plants with iron and micronutrients.
Didiplis diandra creates a beautiful contrast when paired with purely green stem plants such as Rotala sp. Green or when added to other colourful plants.
A nutrient-rich substrate is beneficial as Didiplis diandra absorbs most nutrients through its roots. The ideal water parameters for this plant include a temperature range of 20-28°C (68-82°F), a pH of 6.0-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. With a moderate growth rate, it can be propagated by cutting stem sections and replanting them. Regular trimming encourages bushiness.
Didiplis diandra works well in the midground or background, providing height and contrast when paired with lower-growing foreground plants.
