Tropica Weeping Moss (Vesicularia ferriei ‘Weeping’) is a beautiful, bright green moss with a distinctive drooping, weeping growth pattern. Its hanging shoots create a natural cascading effect, making it particularly effective when attached to driftwood, roots and other hardscape.
Originally believed to originate from China, Weeping Moss has become a popular choice for aquascapers looking to add texture, depth and a more natural appearance to their aquarium. Its teardrop-shaped shoots grow downwards, creating an attractive contrast against upright plants and hardscape.
Growth & Appearance
Weeping Moss develops bright green, fleshy shoots that naturally hang downwards as they grow. When attached to branches or roots, the cascading growth can create the appearance of moss growing naturally from the hardscape.
Regular trimming is recommended to maintain a neat, compact shape and encourage healthy new growth. With the right conditions, Weeping Moss can establish relatively quickly.
Attaching Weeping Moss
We recommend attaching Weeping Moss to driftwood, roots or rocks using aquascaping glue or suitable thread.
As the moss grows, it will gradually attach itself to the hardscape, allowing you to create natural-looking moss-covered branches and cascading sections.
Trimming & Maintenance
Weeping Moss benefits from regular pruning. Use sharp aquascaping scissors to trim back longer or untidy growth and maintain the desired shape.
Regular trimming also helps prevent the moss from becoming overly dense and encourages fresh growth.
Lighting & CO₂
Weeping Moss has relatively low demands and can grow successfully in a range of aquarium setups.
CO₂ is optional, although additional CO₂ can encourage stronger and more vigorous growth. Moderate lighting is generally suitable, while good water quality and regular maintenance will help keep the moss looking its best.
Attach Weeping Moss to branches and roots rather than simply placing it on the substrate. Its naturally cascading growth habit is best displayed when allowed to hang down from hardscape, creating depth and a beautiful natural aquascape.
