Tropica 1-2 Grow!

Micranthemum glomeratum, commonly known as Pearl Weed, is a delicate and highly attractive foreground plant valued for its fine texture and vibrant light-green foliage. Native to North America, it is widely used in aquascaping to create dense, detailed carpets or low, bushy clusters that add depth and softness to planted layouts.

Appearance & Origin

Originating from North America, Micranthemum glomeratum features small, rounded to slightly arched leaves that grow along slender, creeping stems. Its appearance is often compared to a miniature version of Egeria-like plants due to its fine structure and bright green tone. Under strong lighting, it develops compact, trailing growth that enhances its lush, carpet-forming potential. When grown densely, it forms a rich, textured mat of tiny leaves that brings a natural, meadow-like feel to the aquascape.

How to Use in the Aquarium

This plant can be used for the foreground, where it can be encouraged to spread horizontally and form dense carpets or low bushes. Regular trimming is essential to maintain compact growth and prevent it from growing too tall.  It can also be used as background plant and left to grow tall.

When planted in small, tight groups, it quickly fills in spaces and creates a soft, natural transition between hardscape and open areas. It is particularly effective in nature-style aquascapes where fine detail and layering are important.

Maintenance

Micranthemum glomeratum is considered an advanced plant due to its need for stable and well-maintained conditions. It requires medium to high lighting to maintain compact growth and prevent it from becoming leggy. CO₂ supplementation is strongly recommended for optimal health, density, and carpeting performance. Regular trimming and nutrient availability are also essential to encourage horizontal spreading and prevent shading of lower stems.

Micranthemum glomeratum is a finely textured foreground plant that delivers dense, vibrant green carpets when grown under the right conditions. While it requires more advanced care, its ability to create intricate, natural-looking detail makes it a favourite for high-end aquascapes.
