Cryptocoryne balansae is a striking aquarium plant known for its long, textured leaves and elegant flowing appearance. Its tall growth and heavily rippled leaf structure make it an excellent choice for adding height, movement and a natural jungle-like feel to planted aquariums.
Appearance Long, narrow green leaves with a distinctive hammered and rippled texture that gently flow in the aquarium current. Its dramatic leaf shape creates a natural focal point, especially in larger aquascapes and planted tanks. In high light once mature it tends to turn a deep red rustic brown colour
Lighting & Growth Cryptocoryne balansae thrives in low to medium lighting conditions and does not require CO₂ injection.
It grows steadily once established and is well suited to low-tech aquariums, although nutrient-rich substrate and CO₂ can encourage stronger growth. Like many Cryptocoryne species, temporary leaf melt may occur after planting while the plant adapts to new water conditions.
How to Use Best used as a background plant in medium to large aquariums, where its long leaves can spread naturally and create movement within the layout. Plant directly into nutrient-rich substrate and avoid burying the crown too deeply.
