Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow', commonly known as Narrow Leaf Java Fern, is a hardy and elegant aquarium plant prized for its slender leaves and easy care requirements. Its graceful growth habit makes it an excellent choice for creating natural movement and texture within aquascapes, while remaining one of the easiest plants to maintain.
Appearance
Unlike standard Java Fern, Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow' produces long, narrow leaves that create a more refined and delicate appearance. The deep green foliage gently sways in the current, adding movement and a natural feel to the aquarium.
Lighting & Growth
Narrow Leaf Java Fern thrives in low to medium lighting conditions and does not require CO₂ injection.
It grows steadily and is highly adaptable, making it ideal for both beginner and experienced aquarists. While CO₂ and fertilisation can encourage stronger growth, this plant performs exceptionally well in low-tech aquariums.
How to Use
This plant should not be buried in substrate. Instead, attach it to rocks, driftwood or other hardscape using aquarium-safe glue or thread. Over time, the rhizome will naturally anchor itself to the surface.
Its slender leaves make it particularly effective for softening hardscape and creating a natural jungle-like appearance in the midground and background of planted aquariums.
