Create a natural-looking carpet with Tropica Marsilea hirsuta, a beautiful and versatile carpeting plant from Australia. Its unusual ability to produce different leaf shapes makes it a fascinating addition to almost any planted aquarium.
Marsilea hirsuta is a relatively easy carpeting plant and is particularly well suited to aquascapers looking for a lush foreground without the demanding requirements of some other carpet species.
A Carpet With Character
One of the most interesting features of Marsilea hirsuta is its changing leaf shape. Depending on the conditions in your aquarium, it can produce small, clover-like leaves or develop two, three or four-lobed leaves.
The leaves can vary considerably in size and shape, creating a naturally varied appearance rather than a uniform carpet. Given time, the plant produces runners that spread horizontally across the substrate, gradually filling in the foreground and creating a dense, attractive carpet.
Its growth habit and distinctive foliage make it an excellent choice for adding texture and depth to planted aquariums.
Growing Marsilea Hirsuta
Marsilea hirsuta is considered an easy to moderate-care carpeting plant and can be grown without CO₂, although additional CO₂ will generally encourage faster growth and a denser carpet.
Plant the portions into the substrate with a little space between each section. As the plant establishes, it will send out runners which can be guided across the substrate to encourage the carpet to spread where you want it.
Growth and leaf shape can vary depending on lighting, nutrients, CO₂ availability and water conditions, so don't be surprised if your plant looks different as it adapts to your aquarium.
Tropica 1-2-Grow!
Tropica's 1-2-Grow! plants are supplied as healthy, tissue-cultured plants grown in sterile laboratory conditions. They are free from algae, snails and other unwanted pests, making them an excellent choice for establishing a clean planted aquarium.
The plant arrives ready to divide into smaller portions and plant directly into your aquarium substrate.
