Micranthemum tweediei ‘Monte Carlo’ (Potted)

Micranthemum tweediei ‘Monte Carlo’ is one of the most popular carpeting plants in modern aquascaping, loved for its vibrant green colour, compact growth, and ease of use compared to more demanding carpet species. Originating from Argentina, it brings a fresh, natural look to the foreground, quickly forming a lush, flowing carpet across the substrate.

Appearance

This plant features small, round leaves in a bright, fresh green tone, growing along creeping stems that spread horizontally. As it establishes, it forms a dense, cushion-like carpet that adds depth and softness to the aquascape. Its slightly larger leaf size compared to HC makes it easier to manage while still maintaining a refined look.

Aquascaping Use

Monte Carlo is ideal for foreground carpeting, where it can create a thick, vibrant green base. It can also be used creatively as an epiphyte, attached to rocks or driftwood to produce a cascading, natural effect. Its versatility makes it suitable for both nature-style layouts and more structured designs.

Care & Requirements

  • Difficulty: Easy to medium

  • Growth Rate: Fast

  • Height: 2–5 cm (as a carpet)

  • Lighting: Medium to high

  • CO₂: Recommended for best results

While it can tolerate lower light conditions, stronger lighting and CO₂ will encourage tighter, more compact growth and faster spread. Without sufficient light, it may grow more loosely and lose density.

Planting Tips (Potted)

Remove the plant from its pot and gently rinse away the rockwool. Divide into small portions and plant each piece a few centimetres apart in the substrate. This spacing allows the plant to spread quickly and form an even, healthy carpet.

Growth & Maintenance

Regular trimming helps maintain a low, dense carpet and prevents the plant from growing too thick or lifting from the substrate. Trimmings can be replanted to fill in gaps and speed up coverage.

Why Choose Monte Carlo (Potted)?

  • Reliable and fast-growing carpeting plant

  • Bright green colour for a fresh, natural look

  • Easier alternative to HC Cuba

  • Can be used in substrate or on hardscape

Micranthemum tweediei ‘Monte Carlo’ is a go-to choice for aquascapers of all levels, offering a perfect balance of beauty, versatility, and ease of growth for creating stunning green carpets.
