ADA Microsorum pteropus 'Trident' narrow leaf

Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident Narrow Leaf’ is a refined slender variant of the popular Trident fern, prized for its delicate, deeply forked fronds and elegant, flowing form.

The narrow, split leaves create a soft, dynamic movement in the water, making it an ideal choice for Nature-style layouts, where texture and balance are key. Its smaller leaf size compared to standard ‘Trident’ makes it especially suited for nano tanks or for adding fine detail to larger aquascapes.

How to Use in the Aquarium

Attach Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident Narrow Leaf’ to driftwood, rock, or hardscape using thread or glue.

Avoid planting the rhizome in substrate, as this can cause rot. Over time, the plant will naturally anchor itself and develop small plantlets along the rhizome or frond tips, forming lush, layered growth.

Perfect for:

  • Accenting wood and rock in midground layouts

  • Adding movement and contrast among denser species

  • Creating texture transitions between open spaces and hardscape

Maintenance

This plant is low maintenance and slow growing, ideal for both beginners and experienced aquascapers:

  • Lighting: Low to moderate; too much light may promote algae.

  • CO₂: Optional; enhances colour and growth rate.

  • Trimming: Remove older or damaged fronds at the base to maintain a clean appearance.

Emersed Growth

Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident Narrow Leaf’ adapts well to emersed conditions, thriving in humid environments such as terrariums or paludariums. When grown above water, leaves become slightly thicker and more rigid but retain their signature trident shape.
