To achieve the best growth and strongest colouration, provide good lighting, a consistent supply of nutrients and CO₂ supplementation.

While the plant can survive under less demanding conditions, stronger light and good CO₂ availability will generally encourage more compact growth and help bring out its characteristic pink and red tones.

A well-fertilised aquarium will also help maintain healthy, vibrant new growth.
