Potamogeton gayi Aquarium Plant

Potamogeton gayi is an elegant stem plant with long, narrow leaves that create a soft, flowing appearance in the aquarium. Its fine foliage and graceful growth make it particularly effective for adding movement and texture to planted aquariums without creating an overly dense or heavy-looking background.

Appearance
Potamogeton gayi develops slender, elongated leaves along delicate stems, typically displaying fresh green to olive-green colouration. Under good growing conditions, the foliage can also develop attractive warmer reddish-brown tones.

Its narrow leaves move gently with the aquarium's water flow, giving established groups a natural and dynamic appearance.

Lighting & Growth
This adaptable plant performs well under medium lighting, with stronger light encouraging denser growth and potentially more pronounced colouration.

CO₂ supplementation is beneficial and can encourage stronger, healthier growth, although Potamogeton gayi can also be grown without additional CO₂ when provided with suitable lighting and nutrients.

Regular trimming encourages branching and helps maintain a fuller group.

How to Use
Potamogeton gayi is best planted in small groups in the midground or background of the aquarium. Individual stems can be spaced slightly apart when planting, allowing light to reach the lower portions as the group becomes established.

Trim taller stems when required and replant healthy cuttings to gradually create a larger, denser group.
