Ocean Blue Caridina Shrimp are a striking and highly desirable freshwater shrimp known for their deep, rich blue colouration and elegant translucent sheen. Their vivid blue tones create a beautiful contrast against planted aquascapes, particularly when displayed over dark substrates, driftwood, or dense green moss, making them a standout feature in any shrimp aquarium.
A selectively bred variety of Caridina cantonensis, Ocean Blue Shrimp are closely related to other high-grade Caridina lines such as Crystal and Taiwan Bee shrimp. They are best suited to experienced aquarists due to their requirement for stable, soft, and carefully maintained water conditions.
Common Name:
Ocean Blue Shrimp
Scientific Name:
Caridina cantonensis
Colour Variant:
Deep ocean blue to steel blue tones Higher grade specimens display stronger, more solid blue coverage with reduced transparency Some individuals may show subtle gradient shifts depending on light and environment
Size:
Adult size: ~2–2.5cm
Lifespan:
Approximately 1–2 years+ with optimal care and stable parameters
Ocean Blue Caridina Shrimp Water Parameters
Caridina shrimp require very stable, soft water conditions and should only be kept in mature, well-established aquariums.
Temperature: 20–24°C / 68–75°F
pH: 5.8–6.8
GH: 4–6
KH: 0–1
TDS: 100–150 ppm
The use of active shrimp soil alongside RO water remineralised with specialist shrimp minerals is strongly recommended to maintain consistent parameters and long-term health.
Tank Size:
Minimum 20 litres, although larger aquariums are preferred for colony stability and breeding success
Behaviour and Temperament:
Peaceful and non-aggressive
Active grazers constantly foraging for biofilm
Best kept in groups for confidence and natural behaviour
Ideal for species-only shrimp setups or with very small, peaceful tankmates
Diet:
Omnivorous and constantly grazing Feeds on algae, biofilm, blanched vegetables, shrimp-specific foods, and occasional protein-based supplements
We feed all of our shrimp in-store the Shrimp Pro food range, which they readily accept and thrive on.
Breeding:
Breed readily in freshwater under correct conditions
Females carry eggs for approximately 3–4 weeks
Fully formed miniature shrimp hatch with no larval stage
Requires stable parameters for consistent breeding success
Aquascaping & Environment:
Ocean Blue Shrimp thrive in heavily planted aquariums with plenty of moss, wood, and surface area for biofilm development
Mosses such as Java Moss provide excellent grazing and shelter for juveniles
Dark substrates enhance their blue colouration dramatically
Wood and textured hardscape help encourage natural behaviour and feeding
Their deep blue tones stand out particularly well in contrast to lush green planting and shaded areas within the aquascape.
Delivery & Customer Responsibility
Please read before ordering.
1. Suitable Tank Conditions
It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure that their aquarium is fully cycled and that water parameters are suitable for the species purchased before placing an order.
We cannot accept liability for losses resulting from unsuitable tank conditions, incorrect water parameters, or improper acclimation. Shrimp are sensitive invertebrates and require stable, appropriate environments to thrive.
2. Dispatch & Delivery Schedule
All shrimp and snails are dispatched on Mondays only for Tuesday delivery (pre-1pm service) to minimise time in transit.
Please ensure someone is available to receive the delivery. Prompt acceptance of live animals significantly improves survival rates and reduces stress.
We cannot accept responsibility for delays, missed deliveries, or losses where no one is available to receive the parcel on the scheduled delivery day.
Orders placed after 11am on a Monday will be dispatched the following Monday.
3. Tracking Information
Tracking numbers are not issued automatically.
If required, tracking details can be requested by phone or email after 1pm on Monday, once shipments have been processed and collected.
4. Dead on Arrival (DOA) Policy
In the rare event of a shrimp or snail arriving deceased, this must be reported within 24 hours of delivery.
Clear photographic evidence must be provided showing the deceased livestock inside the original, unopened bag. This is required for us to assess and process any claim.
Reports made after 24 hours, or without photographic proof in the unopened bag, cannot be considered.
