Anubias Coffeifolia
Potted
Absolutely — I’d make it feel more like a Horizon Aquatics product listing: informative and polished, but still natural and sales-focused rather than simply rewriting the manufacturer text.
Anubias Coffeifolia – Potted
Anubias barteri var. coffeifolia is a particularly attractive and versatile Anubias cultivar, known for its distinctive deeply textured leaves and striking reddish-brown colouration on new growth. Its compact growth habit makes it an excellent choice for both smaller aquariums and larger planted displays, where its unusual foliage can provide a strong focal point amongst finer-leaved plants.
As the leaves mature, they develop rich green tones while retaining the characteristic ribbed, slightly arched appearance that gives Anubias Coffeifolia its unique texture. New leaves emerge with warm red-brown tones before gradually developing into their mature green colour, creating an attractive contrast within the plant.
Like other Anubias, it grows from a creeping rhizome and is exceptionally hardy and undemanding. Its slow growth makes it easy to maintain.
Anubias Coffeifolia can be attached to rocks, wood or other hardscape, with the rhizome kept above the substrate. It can also be grown in a suitable planted substrate, provided the rhizome is not buried.
How to use in Aquascaping
Anubias Coffeifolia is an excellent choice for low-maintenance aquascapes and works particularly well when attached to wood or rock. Its broad, heavily textured leaves provide a strong contrast against fine-leaved plants, mosses and carpeting species.
Its slow growth and low light requirements also make it ideal for aquariums where minimal maintenance is preferred. Under suitable conditions, it may flower even when fully submerged, although the flowers will not produce viable seeds underwater.
Care Tips
Keep the rhizome exposed when planting or attaching the plant to hardscape, as burying it can cause the rhizome to rot. Moderate to low lighting is generally sufficient, although brighter light can be used provided algae growth is controlled. CO₂ injection is not required, but additional CO₂ can encourage healthier growth.
With its exceptional hardiness, unusual leaf shape and beautiful red-brown new growth, Anubias Coffeifolia is a fantastic choice for both beginners and experienced aquascapers looking for a distinctive, easy-care foreground or midground plant.
