ADA Bolbitis heteroclita
Terrestrial Jungle Plant
Bolbitis heteroclita is a striking fern native to Southeast Asia, cherished for its delicate, translucent foliage and elegant, wild appearance. While it can be grown fully submerged, the plant tends to grow slowly underwater and its leaves remain smaller, making it more prone to algae. Its true beauty is best appreciated when grown emersed or in high-humidity environments, where the leaves develop a firm, vibrant texture and a more natural, jungle-like character.
How to Use
Bolbitis heteroclita thrives in DOOA System Terra or Paluda setups, as well as on Wabi-Kusa mats mounted on walls, creating striking vertical accents in aquascapes and paludariums. Its preference for high humidity means occasional misting is ideal, just enough to maintain leaf health without water droplets forming.
Because of its slow, deliberate growth and unique leaf structure, it works best as a feature plant or focal point in jungle-style layouts, rather than as a mass-background species. Strategic placement in key areas enhances the sharpness and depth of the overall design.
Maintenance
Regular removal of old leaves encourages healthy, compact growth, emersed growth responds well to high humidity and indirect light. With careful placement and maintenance, Bolbitis heteroclita develops its full potential, producing pinnate compound leaves with intricate shapes, sometimes growing up to 50 cm in emersed conditions.
