Echinodorus joyo 'Red star'

Echinodorus joyo 'Red Star' is a striking and vibrant cultivar of the Amazon Sword plant, known for its deep red to reddish-brown leaves that add a bold splash of colour to freshwater aquariums. Native to South America, this hybrid is believed to be, or at the very least, looks like a  cross between Echinodorus horemanii 'Red' and Echinodorus 'Barthii', resulting in a compact and visually appealing plant with sword-shaped foliage.

Ideal for midground to background placement, Echinodorus joyo 'Red Star' serves as a captivating focal point in aquascapes. Its vibrant coloration contrasts beautifully with green carpeting plants or other aquatic species, making it a versatile choice for various aquascaping styles. Maintenance

This plant is moderately easy to care for, thriving under medium to high lighting conditions. While it can adapt to a range of water parameters, it flourishes in nutrient-rich substrates and benefits from regular fertilisation.

Regular pruning of older leaves encourages fresh growth and maintains its compact form.

Emersed Growth

Echinodorus joyo 'Red Star' can also be cultivated emersed in high-humidity environments like paludariums or terrariums. In these conditions, it retains its vibrant red coloration and may produce small white flowers. Transitioning between submerged and emersed growth may cause some leaf melt, but healthy new foliage will soon develop.
