ADA Anubias barteri var nana 'Petite'

Anubias barteri var. nana is a compact, slow-growing epiphyte plant, popular for its durability, rich green foliage, and versatility in aquascaping. Native to West Africa, this hardy species is ideal for beginners pro scapers. Its broad, rugged leaves and low demands make it a dependable choice for low-maintenance, visually striking aquascapes. Whether used in nano tanks, midground arrangements, or hardscape accents, Anubias nana adds timeless beauty and balance to both low-tech and high-tech setups.

How to Use Anubais nana petite
This plant thrives when attached to hardscape elements like driftwood, rocks, or decorative pieces. Simply tie it down with thread or glue it in place using aquarium-plant glue. It should not be buried in substrate, as covering the rhizome can lead to rot. Thanks to its slow, compact growth, Anubias nana is excellent for tight spaces, midground highlights, or as a focal point in smaller tanks. It grows well under low to moderate lighting and doesn’t require CO₂ to thrive, making it perfect for low-maintenance aquariums or shrimp setups.

Maintenance
Anubias barteri var. nana is extremely low-maintenance and tolerant of a wide range of water parameters, making it one of the most beginner-friendly plants available. Its slow growth means trimming is rarely needed, and its thick, waxy leaves naturally resist algae, especially in shaded areas or lower light setups. Routine care involves removing occasional older or damaged leaves and ensuring the rhizome remains above the substrate. It thrives well in temperatures ranging from 20–28°C and while CO₂ and fertilisers can promote slightly faster growth, they are not necessary for success.

Emersed Growth
Anubias nana can also thrive in emersed (above-water) environments, such as paludariums, ripariums, or humid terrarium settings. When grown emersed, the plant maintains its characteristic dark green leaves and gains a slightly more robust texture. It adapts well to high humidity and indirect light, making it ideal for creative plant displays outside traditional aquariums.

Why Choose Tissue Culture Anubias?
Tissue culture Anubias barteri var. nana offers a superior start for your aquarium. Grown in sterile laboratory conditions, tissue culture plants are free from pests, algae, snails, and diseases. Potted plants have to undergo a transformation process to adjust to underwater conditions which can cause plant stress, tissue culture plants adapt quicker to new conditions which can help ensure better success.
