Bucephalandra 'Wavy Green' is an attractive and easy-to-grow aquarium plant known for its distinctive rippled foliage and compact, bushy growth. Native to Southeast Asia, Bucephalandra naturally grows attached to rocks and wood in fast-flowing streams and rivers, making it particularly well suited to being grown on aquarium hardscape.
The plant produces rich green leaves with strongly wavy edges, giving it a unique texture that contrasts beautifully with smoother-leaved plants. The leaves typically grow to around 5cm long and 2cm wide, while the creeping rhizome gradually branches and produces new growth, allowing the plant to form dense, attractive clumps over time.
Like Anubias, Bucephalandra is a slow-growing and highly undemanding rhizome plant. It performs well under low lighting and does not require CO₂, although additional CO₂ can encourage healthier and more vigorous growth. Mature submerged leaves can also develop small, distinctive pale spots, adding further interest to the foliage.
Bucephalandra 'Wavy Green' is best attached to rocks, driftwood or other hardscape using aquarium-safe glue, thread or fishing line. Once established, its roots will naturally attach themselves to the surface.

The strongly rippled leaves provide an attractive contrast when combined with Anubias, mosses and finer-leaved aquarium plants. Over time, the rhizome branches readily and develops into dense clumps, making it ideal for softening the edges of hardscape and creating a mature, established appearance.
Care Tips
The creeping rhizome should always be kept above the substrate. Burying the rhizome can cause it to rot and eventually kill the plant. For the best results, attach Bucephalandra directly to rocks or wood and allow the roots to establish naturally.
Low to moderate lighting is ideal, particularly as the plant's slow growth means it can be prone to algae accumulation under excessive lighting. CO₂ is not essential, but supplementation can promote stronger growth and help the plant establish more quickly.
