Bucephalandra ‘Sintang’ is a captivating, slow-growing variety of Bucephalandra known for its compact form and rich colouration. Native to the riverbanks of Borneo, this variety has become increasingly popular among aquascaping enthusiasts for its appearance and its ease

How to Use in the Aquarium
Buce ‘Sintang’ is best attached to hardscape elements like driftwood, rocks, or decorative stones using thread or plant glue. It should not be deeply buried in substrate, as covering the rhizome can cause rot, however the roots will naturally grow down towards the substarte and bury/anchor itself.

Its naturally compact size makes it ideal for detailed scapes, especially in smaller tanks or as a highlight plant in midground clusters. It prefers low to moderate lighting and does not require CO₂, though the addition of CO₂ and liquid fertilisers can enhance colour and growth rate. Position it in areas with gentle flow to help prevent algae buildup on its leaves.

Maintenance
Bucephalandra ‘Sintang’ is very low-maintenance and thrives in a wide range of water parameters. As a slow grower, it requires minimal trimming and is perfect for aquarists who want a long-lasting, stable layout. Over time, it may develop subtle color shifts and produce small white flowers, especially when conditions are stable. The main maintenance tasks include gently removing older or algae-covered leaves and ensuring the rhizome remains above the substrate.

Emersed Growth
Like other Bucephalandra species, ‘Sintang’ performs exceptionally well in emersed setups such as terrariums, paludariums, and Wabi-Kusa. When grown emersed in high humidity with indirect light, it retains its signature color and often flowers more readily. The leaf texture becomes slightly thicker and more leathery, and its slow growth habit makes it a beautiful, low-maintenance focal point in semi-aquatic plant displays.
