ADA Cryptocoryne wendtii 'tropica'
Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ is a striking variety of the popular Cryptocoryne wendtii species, known for its broad, ruffled leaves and rich bronze to reddish-brown colouration. It adds bold contrast and texture to any aquascape, it is a great choice for those who want in interesting but low-maintenance plant with high visual impact.
How to Use Cryptocoryne wendtii 'tropica'
This plant works best when used in the midground of the aquarium, where its broad leaves can create depth and structure. It can also serve as a foreground focal point in larger tanks or as a subtle background plant in nano aquariums. Plant it directly into a nutrient-rich substrate using aquascaping tweezers, spacing individual plantlets a few centimetres apart. It thrives in low to moderate lighting, and while CO₂ and fertilisers can enhance its coloration and growth, they are not required for healthy development. Over time, it spreads by producing new shoots, forming attractive clusters.
How to Maintain Cryptocoryne wendtii 'tropica'
Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ is one of the most forgiving and easy-to-maintain plants in the hobby. It tolerates a wide range of water conditions and lighting levels, making it well-suited for low-tech tanks. After planting, it may experience “crypt melt,” where leaves die back, this is normal. Allow time for the roots to establish, and new growth will emerge stronger and more adapted to your tank. Once settled, it requires minimal care beyond occasional removal of old leaves and thinning of overgrown clusters. It grows steadily without becoming to invasive but long or excess leaves can easily be pinched off at the base of the plant.
Emersed Growth
When grown emersed, the leaves often take on a greener hue and slightly different texture, but the plant remains robust and visually appealing. Keep the environment humid, provide bright but indirect light, and maintain moist substrate to ensure healthy, compact growth.
