Cryptocoryne spiralis ‘Nari’

Cryptocoryne spiralis ‘Nari’ is a celebrated for its elegant tape like leaves and rich  shifting tones that range from brown to deep bronze and reddish hues under higher lighting. This distinctive Cryptocoryne adds graceful vertical movement and natural contrast to planted aquariums, particularly in midground to background placements.

How to Use in the Aquarium

Plant Cryptocoryne spiralis ‘Nari’ directly into a nutrient-rich substrate, allowing space between each rosette for root expansion. It thrives in stable setups and rewards consistent conditions with lush, upright growth and dynamic colour variation. Use it to create depth and vertical flow behind shorter foreground species or to frame hardscape elements like stones and driftwood.

CO₂ injection and moderate to high lighting will enhance both growth rate and leaf pigmentation, producing beautiful bronze to reddish tones that contrast strikingly with green plants.

Maintenance

Like many Cryptocoryne species, ‘Nari’ may experience brief leaf melt after planting — a natural adjustment phase. Simply remove decaying leaves and allow time for new growth to emerge. Avoid frequent uprooting or disturbance, as it prefers stable substrate conditions to develop a strong root network.
Regular trimming of older leaves and the addition of root tabs or iron-rich fertilisers will maintain colour intensity and plant health over time.

Emersed Growth

Cryptocoryne spiralis ‘Nari’ can also grow emersed in humid, high-moisture environments such as paludariums or ripariums. In this form, leaves may appear broader and greener, but still retain their signature shape. Transitioning between submerged and emersed forms may cause temporary melt before regrowth stabilizes.

Cryptocoryne spiralis ‘Nari’ is the perfect choice for aquascapers seeking a bold yet natural midground accent. Its flowing leaf form, colour diversity, and reliable growth make it a stunning and adaptable feature in any aquascape.
