Tropica Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica'

Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica' is a beautiful and distinctive cultivar of one of the aquarium hobby's most reliable Cryptocorynes. Renowned for its rich green to bronze, heavily textured ("hammered") leaves, this elegant plant adds depth, contrast, and natural character to planted aquariums.

Originating from Sri Lanka, this variety is well suited to both beginner and experienced aquascapers thanks to its adaptability and relatively undemanding nature. It performs well in a wide range of water conditions, including harder water, making it an excellent choice for many community aquariums.

Growing to around 10–20cm in height, Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica' is ideal for the foreground or midground, where its broad, textured leaves create attractive focal points and soften the transition between hardscape and taller background plants.

Like many Cryptocorynes, it may experience Crypt Melt when first introduced to a new aquarium. While this can appear alarming, the plant will typically recover once it has established its root system and adapted to its new environment.

Aquascaping Tips

Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica' looks particularly effective when planted in small groups around driftwood, stones, or along the edges of pathways. Its textured leaves provide excellent contrast against finer-leaved plants such as Hemianthus callitrichoides, Eleocharis, or Rotala, helping to create a more natural, layered aquascape.

Once established, this is an exceptionally hardy plant that requires very little maintenance, making it a dependable addition to both beginner and experienced aquascapes alike.
