The dwarf fan shrimp from Southeast Asia looks a bit like an amano shrimp at first cursory glance. Its base color is gray to brownish, and it has fine black markings on the sides of its body. A thin dorsal stripe is often visible as well. If you look more closely, you can see that - unlike the Amano - the scissor legs have been re-shaped into fans. The rostrum (the "nose") is also slightly bent downwards. Atyoida pilipes grows only to a maximum of 5.5 cm and is thus quite small for a fan shrimp. The females are somewhat chubbier than the males.
