Stoffels Bucephalandra 'Pink Malawi'

Limited Edition

Bucephalandra 'Pink Malawi' is a highly sought-after, rare variety of Bucephalandra that brings vibrant colour and refined texture to planted aquariums. It features narrow, slightly curved leaves with a subtle shimmer and a stunning range of colours, most notably deep greens, purples, and soft pink hues that develop under optimal conditions.

When settled, this Bucephalandra reveals a pinkish iridescence across the leaf surface, especially under medium to high light and with good water flow. Its compact size and elegant coloration make it a great choice for nano tanks, high-end aquascapes, or collector’s layouts.

How to Use in the Aquarium

Bucephalandra 'Pink Malawi' is an epiphytic plant, meaning it should be attached to driftwood, rocks, or hardscape using aquarium-safe glue or thread. Avoid planting it in substrate, as burying the rhizome can cause it to rot.

Ideal for:

  • Foreground or midground accent on driftwood or lava rock

  • Adding subtle colour contrast in nature-styles

  • Detail planting in nano aquariums or buce collector tanks

  • Complementing mosses, Anubias, and other Bucephalandra varieties

It’s best positioned in areas with moderate water movement to prevent algae buildup on leaves and promote healthy growth.

Maintenance

'Pink Malawi' is low maintenance and slow-growing, making it perfect for aquascapers who prefer a refined look without frequent trimming.

  • Lighting: Low to medium; stronger light brings out pink/iridescent tones

  • CO₂: Optional but enhances colour and growth

  • Fertilisation: Benefits from micronutrient-rich water column dosing

  • Flow: Appreciates gentle to moderate current

  • Growth Rate: Slow

  • Trimming: Rarely needed—remove older leaves as necessary

With stable parameters, it becomes a long-term highlight in the aquascape.

Emersed Growth

Like most Bucephalandra, 'Pink Malawi' can also grow emersed, making it suitable for paludariums, ripariums, or Wabi-Kusa setups.

In emersed conditions:

  • Leaves become thicker and slightly more rigid

  • Pink hues may be softer but still noticeable

  • Can produce small, delicate white or cream spathe-like flowers

  • Requires high humidity and consistent moisture for success

Emersed growth reveals another layer of this plant’s beauty and is great for rare plant collectors and display builds.
