Black Fancy Tiger Caridina Shrimp

Black Fancy Tiger Caridina shrimp are one of the most striking tiger-type Caridina varieties available. They feature bold black striping and patterning over a pale or golden base, giving them a dramatic, high-contrast appearance. Grading is based on the clarity, thickness, and consistency of the black patterning across the body.

Caridina species require more specific water parameters than Neocaridina shrimp and benefit from a carefully controlled setup. They should be kept in remineralised RO (reverse osmosis) water using a GH-only mineral supplement, as they are very sensitive to carbonate hardness. KH should be kept at 0, with an absolute maximum of 2 dKH.

While they do require more attention initially, this shouldn’t discourage hobbyists. Once a stable environment is established, Black Fancy Tigers are hardy, active, and extremely rewarding to keep. Their bold patterning and elegant movement make them a true feature shrimp in any aquascape.

Top off evaporated water with pure RO water only, as evaporation concentrates minerals. Regular water changes of around 30% every one to two weeks should be done with freshly remineralised RO water matched to the tank’s parameters to maintain long-term stability and shrimp health.

With consistency and good husbandry, Black Fancy Tiger shrimp can thrive and even breed successfully in a home aquarium.

Caridina Shrimp Diet

We feed our shrimp on a range of Shrimp Pro Foods:

• Shrimp Pro – Snowflake
• Shrimp Pro – Nettle Leaf
• Shrimp Pro – Dandelion Leaf
• Shrimp Pro – Nano Nibbles
• Shrimp Pro – Colour Crunch (for red shrimp)

Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp have different water parameter requirements and should not be housed together in the same aquarium.

Although both are freshwater shrimp, they thrive in very different conditions. Choosing the right shrimp for your existing aquarium water is important for their long-term health and success.

We strongly recommend testing your aquarium water before purchasing your shrimp. In particular, check your GH, KH and pH to determine which type of shrimp is best suited to your water.

  • Neocaridina generally prefer harder, more mineral-rich water with a higher KH.

  • Caridina generally require softer water with lower KH and specific mineral levels.

If your tap water isn't suitable for the shrimp you want to keep, you may need to use RO (reverse osmosis) water and remineralise it with the appropriate shrimp minerals to achieve and maintain the correct parameters.

Not sure which shrimp will suit your water? Test your water first and get in touch with us if you're unsure. We'd much rather help you choose shrimp that are suited to your setup than have you purchase shrimp that may struggle in unsuitable parameters.

Please check your water before ordering — the right parameters are one of the most important factors in keeping healthy, thriving shrimp.

Water Parameters for Caridina Shrimp (Soft Water Required)

Temperature: 20–23°C
pH: 5.8–6.8 (acidic range preferred)
General Hardness (GH): 4–6 dGH
Carbonate Hardness (KH): 0–2 dKH
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): 100–200 ppm
(RO water remineralised — optimal TDS is 140–160)

Delivery & Customer Responsibility

Please read before ordering.

1. Suitable Tank Conditions
It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure that their aquarium is fully cycled and that water parameters are suitable for the species purchased before placing an order.

We cannot accept liability for losses resulting from unsuitable tank conditions, incorrect water parameters, or improper acclimation. Shrimp are sensitive invertebrates and require stable, appropriate environments to thrive.

2. Dispatch & Delivery Schedule
All shrimp and snails are dispatched on Mondays only for Tuesday delivery (pre-1pm service) to minimise time in transit.

Please ensure someone is available to receive the delivery. Prompt acceptance of live animals significantly improves survival rates and reduces stress.

We cannot accept responsibility for delays, missed deliveries, or losses where no one is available to receive the parcel on the scheduled delivery day.

Orders placed after 11am on a Monday will be dispatched the following Monday.

3. Tracking Information
Tracking numbers are not issued automatically.

If required, tracking details can be requested by phone or email after 1pm on Monday, once shipments have been processed and collected.

4. Dead on Arrival (DOA) Policy
In the rare event of a shrimp or snail arriving deceased, this must be reported within 24 hours of delivery.

Clear photographic evidence must be provided showing the deceased livestock inside the original, unopened bag. This is required for us to assess and process any claim.

Reports made after 24 hours, or without photographic proof in the unopened bag, cannot be considered.
